E-mailed files extension chages to .tmp

This is due to them using the wrong message format (or the person sending to them if its only from one person)
I assume its outlook? If so you want to go to outlook, tools> options > mail format > choose MIME, encode text using none.
If its set to that, choose Uuencode.

If not outlook, its most likely the same thing, MIME vs Uuencode.
