edit boot.ini win2k?

By Charger Media ·
I already know how to make the boot changes through my computer, properties, advanced, startup and recovery, but I can't edit the actual boot.ini file to say "Windows 98" instead of "Microsoft Windows" when given the option of booting into 98 or win2k.

I searched for boot.ini in win2k and could not find it.

Any tips on how I can edit this file? Thanks.

Boot.ini resides on the root of your boot drive (C:\boot.ini) . I think is a hidden file by default, so you will have to go to your Explorer options tab and select the SHow Hidden files option.

The Boot.ini is hidden system file. To show the boot.ini you will need to open windows explorer and select Tools|Folder Options. Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)". Answer yes to the dialog box. The boot.ini might be set as read-only so you should do properties on the file before editing it, or you wont be able to save your changes.

You can open a CMD window and use the old DOS ATTRIB command to un-hide it. Edit the file with Notepad, then set the attributes back the way they were.
