Efficient Data Transfers

By smclellan ·
My company has approximately 8 satellite locations. Each location has data that needs to be uploaded to our corporate office on a daily basis. We need these transfers to take place as close to realtime as possible. We use a bonded T line (300K) at corporate office and DSL or Cable connections at satellite offices. The daily data sizes are 300mb to 2gb. We use PeerSync software to handle transfers. I would love to hear some second opinions on the most efficient way to retrieve this data from a remote site.

A simple question.

Are you saying that you generate 300MB to 2GB worth of new data everyday? Probably a stupid question but there it is. That seems like a lot of new data. I ask because I'm wondering if you're sending the same old data over and over again.

New data.

The software (peersync) compares the directories and uploads the new data only. In regards to size, unfortunately 300mb to 2gb is new data.

'Nother few stupid questions. I'm basically a noob.

Especially when it comes to large data tranfers, everyday.
Is that all unzipped/uncompressed data or zipped/compressed?
It seems like a lot of data. There must be a fairly large number of computers involved. Seems like it'd barely be finished transferring before it's time for work again.
Do the data transfers happen continuously throughout the day? Does it all get used in real-time the following day or are some apps. not used for awhile? Is it AutoCAD/Catia work? It doesn't seem likely that they'd be MS-Office files. As I said, that's a lot of files unless it's medical billing or something.
You must be making a ton of backups with that much data involved.
