I had a hard drive crash, I can access it, just not boot off it. Bought a new hard drive, installed WinXP, everything’s good. Here’s the problem…
Many folders on the old hard drive are encrypted using XP’s EFS. Is it possible to find the key or certificate that the old profile used to access the encrypted files? Should I try importing all the old profile’s settings to the new hard drive (I’m weary to try this because the disk crashed so some parts may be corrupt)? Is there any other way to recover those files, being that no recovery agent was ever made?
It kills me that they’re right there in front of me but access is denied, and i was the one that encrypted them…and yes, I know i should’ve created a recovery agent, lesson learned the hard way.
