Eliminating Roaming Profiles

By aaron.leech ·
Ok, the scenario is we have two domains here, Domain A, and Domain B, with a two way trust. Domain B is being collapsed into Domain A, and we're working on migrating the users over.

Users in Domain B all have roaming profiles, and we're working to get rid of them, with least inconvenience to the users. What I'd like to do is have it so the users log on once with their new accounts in Domain A, have it download their profile to their machine, and then keep it on the machine as a local profile, and get rid of the roaming profiles.

Is there a way to automate this on an "as a user logs on" way or otherwise?

Please note I'm not seeking advice on changing permissions or pointers in user profiles, just want it to download the profile once and keep it local, and not attempt to download the profile any more.

Eliminating Roaming Profiles

The following code in the logonscript (Kixtart syntax) will do the switch from Roaming to Local profile;
---CODE START---------------
$Profile = ReadValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\"+@SID,"UserPreference")
; $Profile="0", User with local profile
; $Profile="1", User with roaming profile
; Check local profile
IF $Profile <> "0"
; Set profile local
$RC = WriteValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\"+@SID,"UserPreference","0","REG_DWORD")
ENDIF
----CODE STOP--------------
