We have a emachine Intel Celeron D with Windows XP home edition. My son has frozen his computer up, he said he was downloading a program but then cancelled it and went into his control panel and changed his hardware device to standard. He was on the computer the rest of the night then he turned the computer off. But when he powered up the next day it only gives him a black screen and nothing else. It won’t even let him go to the safe mode to make any changes he made the day before. We can’t find the restore cd either to restore his computer to its original setup. Does anyone know how I can fix this error without the cd? Or without restoring it, just to get it past the black screen and into the safe mode? I read that sometimes emachines will lock up if the fans are overheating, but we have cleaned that, nothing. We have also left it unplugged and tried again, still nothing. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
