emachine troubles. Enlighten me please.

By angelic.beauty ·
I have a 270 that's about 4 years old. It just started ticking and flashing by itself one day. It smelt of burnt plastic. So I replaced the PSU and the hard drive.

As soon as it's plugged in, the light surrounding the on button on the front of the base unit starts flashing. F1 doesn't work. And the CD drive won't eject either. Can someone tell me what they think the problem might be? Thanks.

The Electrolytic Capacitors that regulate the voltage for the CPU have failed.

Pull the side cover and look closely at what look like a lot of little small Tin Cans sitting on one end there are generally covered by some form of Blue Plastic which gives their description and Polarity and see if any have Bulging tops or are leaking.

If they are the M'Board is shot and needs replacing and the CPU as well possibly.
