Email a zipped copy of a database

By mruiz ·
In Access 95 how can I create a macro that can zip up the data from the tables and be able to email to another user. I tried using PKzip but it didn't work. I have WinZip can I use that. The reason is because the end user has runtime Access and they have to email the home office Data from there Access database.

Hi,

How big is the database? If the database is big in bytes you cannot e-mail it obviously there is a maximum bytes that an e-mail can handle. Why not try to reduce the size of the access file and e-mail it to him in series. The best thing is to download the file from your server through internet it will just take a long time. Hope this help a bit.

Cheers,

You can't zip the database while you have it open. But if you're trying to update data from a remote user's database, why not set up code in the user's Access that will export the changed data tables to text or Excel file(s), then zip those with PkZip (to speed up the email)?

If you do that you should be able to substantially reduce the amount of data that has to be emailed so you don't run in to problems with very large files.

And if you still need to send a lot of data, having a separate file for each table that must be sent will mean that each table can be sent as a separate email.

The receiving (master) database can then import the data and handle it as appropriate to update the permanent files.
