Email Alert Failure on WSUS server

By otaku_lord ·
I have a WSUS server set up and working. I keep getting errors however saying that Email Notifications are failing.

When I attempt to test the emailing capabilities of the WSUS server I receive an error saying:

System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Syntax error, command unrecognized. The server response was: Your IP x.x.x.x does not have a reverse DNS entry. Diconnecting...

I have verified that the server does, in fact, have a PTR entry in Reverse Lookup.

There were some legacy entries in DNS for an old DC. I removed them and all is well.

Oh crap...

they are back! Does anyone have a clue about these? I have combed through DNS and have found nothing in there that appears to be out of the ordinary.

This is really getting to be annoying...

is your DNS server the authoritative DNS server for the domain name?

and does forward and recursive DNS test "pass"?

but I had a few other fires to put out...

To answer your questions:

For that segment of the network, the correct DNS server responds to both internal and external DNS queries successfully. I used both NSLOOKUP and "PING -a" to test. It resolved both IP and Named paths.

Resolved again...

Since I didn't set up the WSUS server I assumed (***/u/me) that it was set up correctly... well, the person who set it up entered the wrong email. Once I changed that it tested fine!!

Sorry to bother everyone with an ID10T error.
