Email body won't print

By slsmith ·
Using Outlook XP (client version, not through the web), when I print I get only the header, no body at all. I can print the attachments. It is using an HP laserjet 2100. Other folks who share the printer can print the same emails with no problem. My computer is new, I just got it yesterday. I have reinstalled the printer.

When I try to use the Outlook web mail to print. I get a blank page.

I also uninstalled and reinstalled Office. I also tried to send to a variety of printers including other HP and Gestetners.

It still won't print the body.

Printing it all

by CaptBilly1Eye In reply to Email body won't print

It's hard to say exactly what is causing your issue without knowing more about your system setup (ie. OS?, is the local printer driver the most recent version?, have you ever been able to print the body?, what has changed since then?). In particular, is the OS Vista and is the printer driver Vista compatible?
Besides that...
If you haven't performed all the MS Outlook updates and Service Packs, that would be the first thing to do!
But it sounds as if it is a settings issue. The question is... where. Here are a few suggestions and work-arounds.

The usual suspect when email won't print properly is that the email is in HTML format. Changing the format to Plain Text in the Format menu at the top of Outlook will often let you print.

oops ----- I typed the following section before I re-read your second post where you stated that you tried other printers. So, this section may not apply.
[With some printer drivers, there is a 'Print Selection' option on one of the Properties tabs. If you find such an option, check it and then try highlighting the body's text and printing.
While checking the Printer's driver Properties tabs, make sure it is set to print Text or Text & Images in the Preferences section.]

You could also copy the text and paste it into Word and print from there.

Additionally, there is a MS support article that may apply:

Email body won't print in Outlook 2003

by JustAJob In reply to Email body won't print

We have come across the same issue running Outlook 2003 on an exchange server. The only fix so far is to rebuild but I had one instance after rebuilding where it came back after a couple of weeks. Have not found any fix other than that searching the internet. And we are on Windows XP (sp2) with IE 6.

Outlook Express Printing Problem Fix

by OoKorkyoO In reply to Email body won't print

To anyone still having a problem printing the main body of an email from Outlook Express...
I think I found the fix to this problem.
Open CONTROL PANEL from the start menu, open ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS, then click on SET PROGRAM ACCESS AND DEFAULTS on the left hand side. Click on CUSTOM. Under the heading Choose a default email program, click on Outlokk Express then hit OK... This fixed the problem for me and I hope it helps you.
