Email received of other email address

By Sharad Sreedharan ·
---------------

The following recipients did not receive the attached mail. Reasons are listed with each recipient:

ccaldw4406@xxx.com MSEXCH:IMS:OILTOOLS INTERNATIONAL ( CAYMAN ) LIMITED:OILTOOLS-ME:OICLMAIL 0 (000C05A6) Unknown

---------------

In the above message 'xxx.com' denotes some xxx.com (the actual host/domain name has been changed) email host/domain for which the message was destined and my host/domain address is way different.

Generally, I get 'Notification: Inbound Mail Failure' when the mailbox name is incorrect and the host/domain name is correct.

Any idea why this is happening? Help appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Sharad

I've seen this in a couple of cases:

1. Your server will do "inbound mail only", but someone is trying to relay mail off it (spam, usually). I'd call this unlikely though, because messages are usually rejected outright.

2. Your server is receiving mail addressed to: user@yourdomain.com; user2@xxx.com
in which case the xxx.com address is shown like this. This happens with joke lists or any bulk type mail with recipients shown in the to: or cc: line.
