EMAIL VIRUSES

By galehickey2 ·
contained the klez.h virus. I called and told him about it-only problem is he never sent nothing and my mcafee virus protection did not catch it. Reading up on this klez virus people can send you emails using other peoples email names. Do you know of a scanner for emails? Thanks-(THAT WORKS)

Symantec has released a free removal tool, available from http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.klez.h@mm.html (remove any space from this URL). Boot into Safe Mode and run this tool, reboot and download the most current virus signature file from your antivirus vendor and run a full disk scan. This should clean your system and protect you from future attacks. Since the virus uses the address book to send E-Mails to the unsuspecting, Advise those in your address book to be aware of the klezh virus activity Hope this helps.

I use AVG. I have had it remove things that others the popular brands don't. The program and updates are free also. It also seems to run with less overhead than the bloated name brand products.
You can get it at www.grisoft.com
There was a recent article about this product on the Techrepublic site that put me onto it.

We had a terrile Klez attack the first day it was detected about three months ago. One of the first companies to come up with a free effective removal tool was BitDefender. (www.bitdefender.com/html/free_tools.php )
We use Panda antivirus here but htis time Bit Defender was faster releasing a solution. Thier Klez Tool is called Anti Klez and desinfectsall variants. About the name issue, one of the side effects was that this virus send your email name somewhere where it's used to spread the virus. We still recieve complaints about viruses bieng sent from our servers but our servers and clients are free of that virus as far as we can tell and we've tried scanning with McAffee, Panda, Symantec, Bit Defender and others. Hope that helps.
