Email won't send through Exchange 5.5

By Drew Pitzer ·
We are running Outlook on our client side and Exchange 5.5 on our server side. We are able to use the Calendar function built into Outlook but cannot send email. The email just stays in the Outbox. I even hit Send/Receieve and the email just sitsthere. I believe it is a problem with Exchange but I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like your Outlook client is not talking with the Exchange server and it could be either network connectivity or configuration on either end.

I think the first thing I would do is go to Outlook-Tools-Services, highlight Exchange and click properties (if Exchange is not there, you'll have to add it). If the name of the Exchange server is present and underlined, it means that Outlook and Exchange have found each other and are capable of talking and transferring information.

If thename of the Exchange server is not correct or it is not underlined, you have a network problem and you'll have to troubleshoot that. To see if packets can even reach the Exchange server, go to a DOS prompt and type "ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" where xxx is the IP address of the server or "ping servername". If you get replies, then you might want to try re-installing the Outlook client or at least re-installing the Exchange service. If you don't get replies, you need to look at the NIC, the cable and the hub to see whe

We ended up reinstalling Exchange and that didn't work. We then installed Service Pack 2 for Exchange and that fixed our problem.
