Emails disappeared in Outlook Express 6 compaction

by glennrh . Updated 16 years, 11 months ago

Hi there,

In my Outlook Express 6(running XP), I was prompted to have the program compact my messages to free up disk space. While that was running, my system suddently restarted. After the restart, the compaction process was no longer running and dozens of important emails vanished from my archival folders within Outlook Express.

We found the messages in the Recycle Bin and clicked on Restore. After searching for the files, we found .bak files and .dbx files located in:

C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\\Microsoft\Outlook Express

We can’t seem to open or recover these messages in this state. Please, any help would be very much appreciated; these files are very important!

Sincerely,

Glenn
