I recently accepted a position as manager and knew this person would be my challenge. This individual has great programming skills, however has the attitude that he is the ‘best’ and no one can code as efficiently as he can. He recently stated that he believes that his salary is below market value. As his manager I told him I would work with him to the make case for salary adjustment, however we needed to quantitate his value so others especially in upper management would be able to see skills.
Recently I asked him to modified a report program but his comment that it could wait until next week . His comment was witnessed by one of other team members. This was second incidence where I asked him to do something and he decline to it. Needless to say I am thinking I should re-evaluate my efforts to support his salary adjustment. Reasonable ?
