Employer Issued Laptop

By katemsw ·
I work for a large school district. All teachers were issued laptops. Being computer illiterate, I came home powered up, and expected immediate internet access. NOT!!!!
What do I do? It will not connect even thru the telephone line....says password and domain are something....???
Any advice?

domain issue

by scotdenman In reply to Employer Issued Laptop

If the laptop is issued from the school then you probably connect to a DOMAIN at school. So when you take the computer home are you still logging into the domain with cached credentials?

when you log into the computer there should be 3 fields; user name, password, domain. Since you probably dont have admin rights for the domain, then you would need to log into the local machine. You may have to ask your IT department for local admin rights so you can set up a new connection for home.

To try and log into the local machine type your username and password then in the domain field choose the one that says 'computer name(this machine)'

If you want to connect to the internet from home

by DadsPad In reply to Employer Issued Laptop

you must purchase it from a provider. To use a provider on the phone you need a modem, which may be built into the laptop.

Since there are many internet providers from AOL to netzero to Verizon, etc., you have choices. Many are around $10 per month for phone service. You must understand phone provided internet service is much slower than you will have at the school. To get fast internet service you will need DSL or cable provided service, which is more costly, depending on how much internet speed you buy.

Hope that helps.
