Enable external CD-ROM - driver in EBD

By rexx6605 ·
I am trying to enable a Goldstar CD-ROM from within the Emergency Back-up Disk. The model # is GCD-R540B.

If it helps, this drive will play a CD with voltage only applied to it without the bus cable attached.

What is Kanji mode?

I have tried including the driver on Drive a but to no avail. This includes editing the Config.sys file and the Autoexec.bat file ad nauseum.

There is no original manufacturer's disk. The driver was initially used from DOS 6.0. I want to just use Dos 7.0 that is provided with W98.

The notes I have in my Palm Pilot are as follows:
PC-Cd rom in config.sys
devicehigh /l:E 1,26912 acercd.sys /d:mscd001

Cd rom in autoexec.bat
mscdex.exe:mscd001 \v

I know the format of this info is wrong, but not how.

Is there a way to re-write the EBD source file?

Thanks,
Rexx6605

I would try revising you commands like this:
devicehigh acercd.sys /d:mscd001 /l:E 1,26912
although, I can't guarantee it will work.

Looks like your Config.sys syntax is OK, and the suggestion with the added entry might work, but your Autoexec.bat syntax is a bit off. Try changing your entry a little:

mscdex.exe /d:mscd001 /v /m:8

may work fine without the /m switch

Also, some PC's don't like the "devicehigh", you might want to try just "device="

Good luck...

Kanji mode = Kanji is one of the Japanese language/character sets. So I would say that it relates to the support of Japanese language. Don't know of Kanji in any other context.
