Enable Hibernation

By rebelleader ·
I want to enable hibernation on my laptop that is running WinXp Home SP2. When I try to enable hibernation it gives me an error message that states "The Process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."

I have tried restarting several times, defragged my drive and it still gives me the same message.

Please help me.

This may help,

not sure since you are experiencing an error when attempting to load hibernation mode. I would try to perform the hibernation using the instructions included on the page.. Although you may not want to do it this way, it will show whether it can do it.. My guess would be you have a corrupt file or something...

I would replace the Hiberfil.sys file on your system from the windows xp cd using sfc.exe from the run line..

Good Luck..

As Poettone says above, running SFC will help. You need to click Start>Run and type:

sfc /scannow

in the dialog box, then click OK. SFC (System File Checker), will make sure all your Windows system files are intact and where they should be. If they are not, or are found to be corrupt, SFC will replace them.

Also, use to Task Manager to see which processes are running. One of them may be preventing hibernation. If you can, use msconfig (start it the same way you start SFC), and turn off services one by one rebooting each time and see if you can enter hibernation. It sounds more like you have a conflict than a corrupt file.

Good luck
