Enable ICS for a dialup modem?

I have two machines at home. A desktop and a laptop. The Desktop machine has a LAN card and a PCI wireless card. The laptop has a dialup modem, a LAN card and WIFI.

As my cable ISP connection is down as the moment, I am forced to use a dialup modem on my laptop to connect to the internet. Is there a way by which I can share this dialup internet connection with my desktop? May be by creating an AD-HOC wireless connection or connecting the two machine using a cross cable? I dont have any router, switch or HUB at home.

I tried using the adhoc connection (Open – WEP) after enabling the ICS for modem, but wasnt able to get my desktop access to the internet.

Use The Network Connection control panel and configure one PC to be host (Laptop) and the others as Guests (Desktop).
For host:
1. Run New Network Connection Wizard
2. Advanced connection
3. Accept incoming connections
4. Select modem from list
5. Do not (or allow) VPN connections
6. Select users who are allowed access (or use Guest if enabled)
7. Select protocols to use (IP)
8. Finish

For guests
1. Run New Network Connection Wizard
2. Advanced connection
3. Connect directly to another computer
4. Select Guest
5. Enter name of other computer (Laptop)
6. Select device (serial, USB, wireless etc)
7. Select user(s) who can use connection
8. Select Finish
