Enabling the Messenger Service

By Sprocket ·
I need to enable the messenger service on every machine on our network. Is there any command line that can be used to enable the service and set it to automatic start up.

I do not want to go to every machine or tell users what to do, I would rather email a reg edit or command for them to click and do it automatically without them knowing.

If you are using an AD domain, you should be able to do that be applying group policies.

You can start the messenger service from the command line using: net start messenger. Add this to a logon script to automate.

Copy the text below into notepad and save it with filename.reg (reg extension)

START TEXT

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Messenger]
"Start"=dword:00000002

END TEXT

All they have to do now is double click it as you requested.

Enjoy
