Enhance hashing algorithms with salt values

By MaryWeilage Editor ·
This week's .NET e-newsletter explains how you can enhance hashing algorithms with salt values to help protect your sensitive data.

Is cryptography a focus for your application development projects? If so, do you protect sensitive data by using hashing or a different method? What do you think about adding salt to hashing algorithms?

Pardon the newbie question.

How do you decrypt the hashed value later if 'salt' was added at encryption time?

Using salt in encryption

by mx6ls In reply to Enhance hashing algorithm ...

Every time we generate a random salt to have a unique combination of input string+salt.
But next time when clear text input comes in, how do i generate same encrypted string to compare with?
Do i need to store salt also?
