Entry level job search

by pacoolen . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

I will be graduating next month from a post graduate tech school. I have learned java, visual basic, object orientated analysis and design,IBM RDBMS UDB, etc. I already have a business degree in marketing. I spent the last four years teaching english in Japan before going to this one year tech school(www.iti.com)
I want to get a position where I work as a developer in a developement team, using java for a year. Then I’d like to teach java in a consultants role along with being a developer within a team.
The main issue is that I’m canadian and would like to live and work in the states. I qualify for several visas given my educational background but many american companies in the IT field are hesitant to sponsor candidates from abroad. Iwouldn’t really consider canada to be abroad but there is that stigma.
Would appreciate any advice that anyone could give as to possible search strategies, networking opp.’s, etc. Thank you. pcoolen@graduates.iti.com
