Environment Variables

By Analyticus ·
Windows XP and 2000...
I'm looking for a list of default MS Windows environment variables. Does anyone know of such a listing?
For example, I'm pretty sure that %systemroot% is a variable used by default and always assigned a value in Windows. Is there a place where one can get a listing of the others?
Is there a command that can be issued to show the environment variables currently being used by Windows?

A quick listing of the most common environment variables can be viewed here: (remove any spaces)

You can see what environment variables a couple of different ways. Any easy way would be to go to a command prompt and type SET. This will show you all environment variables and their current values. You can also use the GUI to view and change these variables. A good article about that can be found here: (remove any spaces)

Hope this helps.
