In Windows 2000 there is no more ERD, push the F8 button during startup to see the different choices for "safe startup".

You can create an ERD by going into the backup utility in your system tools. Unfortunately the ERD will not contain a copy of your registry but there is a work around...see the following link

Like others have said, there is no true ERD. You should install Recovery Console on your Win2K machine. Put in the Win2K cd, open a Command prompt, go to CDDRIVE:\winnt\i386 and run winnt32 /cmdcons.
That will install Recovery Console and make it aboot option.
