ERP Implementation

Our Company is currently in the process of considering implementing an ERP. We are in the RFI stage. Could you please suggest any advice (Pitfalls, things to take note of, tech issues, stages in acquiring system eg RFi RFP etc etc.What we should look for in a new system (with particular reference to HR module).

This is tough as I have no idea who you are , where you work, nor what iis important to you. It seems funny to put the HR module out there in the front. Unless you are a people-shop, it seems funny to see HR even mentioned before things other traditional buiness modules.

So let's start at a more basic level. You need to sit down as a management team and develop a list of priortities and wishes and some idea of a budget. Consider yourselves very lucky if you can find off the shelf software to fit your needs right out of the box.

Conversion from some other system is also crictical. Access the talent available to pull this off.

Try not to force your practices into software whenit doesn';t fit, or the stragetgioes employed in thedesign are different from yours. Try to see how you can change to fit the software.

Get the entire company up and ready for CHANGE. Dealing with new software is 75% attitude toward change and 25%

It is extremely challenging to delve into all the nitty-gritty details of the day-to-day operations with software sales reps. Yet that is what you have to try and do. You might as well go in with a thought that you're going to try and match up at fairly high levels.

Insist on a trial system and really focus on putting your business throughthe system. Significant testing up front will save you 10-fold later when the problems start popping up on go-live day.
