Erratic mouse and hourglass

By papacape ·
On my emachine (98SE 233hz 128 memory 3 gig HD with 1 gig free)Virtual memory system controlled

My mouse is frequently erratic and the hour glass appears intermittently for no reason.

I don't know if it's connected but the computer has sloweddown -specifically when loading programs.
None of this occurred during the first year I had the computer, just in the last 6-9 months

I need help

Frank

Have you checked to see whats running in the back ground? Hit ctrl+alt+del only once to bring up the task manager it will show most of whats running. Have you down loaded or installed software before it started acting up? Try going to thier web sites to see if there is a trouble shooting help. Spyware will do this sometimes like always trying to contact a website or record keystrokes.

How offten do you run disk clean up, defrag and scan disk? There are free programs like ad-aware for removing advertising spyware. Easy cleaner will look for double files registry errors and fix or remove them.

How often do you do maintenance on your machine
Run scandisk and defrag on the hard drive, then run the anti-virus to scan for any viruses
Check the manufacturers web site for the mouse and update the drivers
Check to make sure that your power supply and cpu fans are operating and check for dust, fans may need cleaning, using compressed air
Hope this helps

Have you checked the computer for a virus? Some viruses can cause your computer to run slower and they can also tamper with your cursor. As a result the hourglass appearing randomly might be the virus spreading to other files. Run a virus program immedietly. Hope it helps ya buddy.
