Erratic mouse at startup

By Numbies ·
I have recently upgraded (clean upgrade) a laptop to Windows XP and it works great except for the fact that when I boot it up with the PS2 mouse connected, the mouse cursor goes berserk and opens windows all over without anyone being near it. I havetried new mouse drivers, touchpad drivers etc. but it has not helped?

Are you sure there's no voice recognition software running? Check all the running processes, as it can start up and you don't even know.

It is usually caused by faulty cable of the mouse or in other words the mouse is broken. Try replacing your PS2 mouse. Extensive gaming usually tends to strain the mouse cable too much.

Is it truly a PS2 mouse or is it USB. Sounds like a USB mouse. They are prone to this kind of activity.
