Error 32 when renewing IP address

    by runt01 ·

I have recently ran across an error message that I cannot find any information on. Unfortunately, I do not have much information. The error 32 occurs on a 9x system connected to a TCP/IP based network that does not utilize WINS. I do not know the full error message and I do not know what TS has been done previously.

Just a thought, but reaload the stack. If the ws2 update has been applied, you’ll need to run the uninstall batch from the c:\windows\ws2bakup directory first and then remove the stack. What I do is add in something like netbeui, and remove all the TCP entries, reboot. The only reason I add in the protocol is that way I don’t have to reload the nic drivers again. Rename a file called wshtcp.vxd to wshycp.old and then reload the stack and of coarse remove netbuei. I suspect that this is something like an old version of winipcfg that isn’t reading something from the ip configuration correctly, even though network connectivity is running just fine.

      Good luck to you

I would try a little known command from the command prompt net helpmsg xx e.g net helpmsg 32. It says that another process is already using the resource. Could it be someone else alread opened the file, and that is what causes the problem. I havealso seen it if the file or share has been removed and so does not exist. Hope this helps.
