error 678 dialing in to a remote server

By mckb ·
My user is running Win 98se on a home computer. He wants to dial in to our server at work.

Intermittently, he receives an error 678 when dialing.

What is the 678 error and can I avoid this or fix the computer so it doesn't happen ?

Sincerely,

Barry

Hi, you can get a list of ras error codes in the microsoft knowledge base: Q163111

I did see a very brief article that mentioned that this error may occur with nt service packs below 6 (and 6a is actually a bit more stable). Error 678 usually means there is no answer but the service pack on the nt end may help clear up the intermittant trouble. Hope this helps.

Error 678:
There is no answer.
If you receive this message RAS Connection Manager and Remote Access Server may not be started and may be set for manual startup. Start both and change RAS connection manager startup to automatic.
