error 692

By wilson.rosa ·
I upgraded from win98 to winxp and my motorola voice/fax/modem sm56 doen not work at all. I keep getting the ERROR 692 message and none of the suggestions to fix the problem worked.

I used the drivers in the modem CD and the drivers I got in the internet (particularly in
http://www.driverguide.com/).

Your best coures of action will be to identify who actually made your modem, and get the Windows XP driver from them.

While Motorola made the IC on your modem, they did not make the modem itself.
If the mfg of the modem modified the drivers, youneed their specific driver to get things working.

Use the tools at driverguide to identify who made the modem, and get the driver from them.

Before installing the new driver, go to Control Panel, Modems, and remove ALL listed modems.

You also may need to try placing the modem card in a different slot.

Found these links at Motorola's web site.

http://e-www.motorola.com/collateral/SM56_DRIVERS.html

http://e-www.motorola.com/webapp/sps/site/taxonomy.jsp?nodeId=01M0yyK3NVV

Remove any spaces from the pasted links.

The bad news is, that they have stopped supporting the SM56 modem, and will not be releasing a XP driver for it.

You might give www.modemhelp.org a try to find the modem mfg.
