Error installing SP1a

By jbeaucaire ·
I am trying to install Win XP PRo SP1a and get an error message that say the following:
Service Pack 1 Setup Error
Setup could not verify the integrity of the update.inf. Make sure Cryptographic service is running on this computer. How do I do this?

"Make sure Cryptographic service is running on this computer. How do I do this"

Update your virus scanner... Run a complete system scan and then download any addition security patches. It would seem you have a bug in your system f the crypt service is failing...

If not, you can go into administrative tools, services and start the service manually.

to check on the service go to start -- control panel -- administrative tools -- services. Check to make sure that the service is started, if not you can start it and decide its loading preference. Suggested setting is "automatic"

I am also in need of an explaination of this issue when installing SP1a. I searched the net and simply found references to ensuring Administrators and System has access to an HKLM entry which it did but to no avail. The only other suggestion was to run NTFILEMON and NTREGMON. The Access Denied message appears even when only 1 Hard Drive exits. Microsoft have not guidance. I simply received Access Denied message and not the Cryptographic message above.
