error message in Windows ME

By fathom ·
I am receiving an error message which reads:

Eude has caused an error in <unknown>.
Eude will now close.

I have the option of clicking on the "close" button.

This is what happens. I boot the computer and I don't even touch anything once the desktop is on screen. If I just sit and watch the desktop for about 3 minutes, the error will pop-up. I'm not opening any applications or anything. It still gives me the error message even if I disable "Load startup group items" before restarting. Thanks in advance for your help.

Open in Safe mode. Hold down F8 at boot up.
Take a look in the startup folder and move all of the contents to another location.

I moved all of the contents located in the startup folder to another location and still have the same error message pop up about 5 minutes later.

"Eude" does not strike any bells. Try getting Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.nu in case it's some form of spyware.
Search the registry for any mention.
For good measure type Sysedit at Start>Run and see if any of the legacy "ini"s have a mention of the file

Boot into Safe Mode and run MSCONFIG.
Click on the Startup tab.
Possibly starting this EUDE application is there. If so, then unclick the checkbox for it, click OK and then reboot normally.

hope this helps
