I am running windows XP on a sony vaio, and I need to connect to the internet via dial-up. In the device manager, it says that the modem is enabled, working properly, and using com3 but when I query the modem, I get an error message titled “OpenComm” that says the com port is in use by another application. I cannot determine which application is using the com port, and when I look at the ports in device manager, it only lists com port 4, not com3, which is allegedly the port that the modem is using.
I’m terribly confused and frustrated…can anyone help? Thanks.
