Error messages

By tzutzasialbu ·
While I'm doing a snoop on a Solaris server I get a lot of these messeges:

DNS R Error: 3(Name Error)
DNS R Error: 2(Server Fail)

Since I am a novice when is coming to Unix, I thought you may have an ideea of what's going on

Thank you.

Name error: from a authoritive server: NAME does
not exist.

Server Fail: The server cannot answer due to an
error with the server itself.

These are return codes received from an upstream
DNS server.

The name errors might be simple typos, you ask
for f.e. (2 p's means
name doesn't exist).

Server fail deserves more attention if they are
issued by your server, otherwise you can do
little about it other then inform the upstream
nameserver maintainer.

Kind Regards

Thanks for answering my question!
You said that if it's coming from my servers would be a problem. Could you be more specific, please? What could be the causes of these errors?

Thank you very much for your help!
