error occuring while reconnecting ?

By jsarinana ·
One of my Win2000 is giving me an error M.S. Windows Netwrok local device name is already in use. One suspect is my login script
login batch file:
@echo off
@Echo Mapping your KSN INC standard network drives

@net use s: /delete /yes >nul
@netuse s: \\ksn-inc\share /yes
@echo Mapping S (Share drive)...

net time \\ksn-inc /set /yes

Remove the at symbol (@) before the two lines beginning with "@net use..."

As a matter of fact... I'd recommend using:

net use s: /delete /yes

instead of that first line. Your syntax is not totally correct. You might want to do a NET HELP USE | MORE or NET HELP USE > PRN and printout the proper syntax.

In response to the post below mine...
> nul is supposed to redirect output to nothing. just line > prn is supposed to re-direct output to the printer. The problem with >nul in the first line is that WinNT will not know what to do with it. WithWinNT you'd do a "net use s: /delete /yes" ; with Novell you'd do a "map del s: > nul:"... they do the same thing... it's just a syntax difference based on environment.

also, the /yes is optional. the user may or may not need it at the end of one or both the net use lines.

what you should do is go to the dos prompt on the client computer and type in the lines separately... see if you get a question at the end of each command. If you do, then you will need the ending /yes in your script. If you don't get any question, then you probably don't need the /yes at the end.

I think the previous answer is probably correct. Also, you do not need the "/yes" switch in the second net use statement; and what is the ">nul" supposed to be doing? Another suggestion - you do not need the first net use line at all. I assume the reason you do this is to be sure that you can change the second net use statement without creating a possible conflict with a previous persistent drive mapping. This is necessary in Win9x, but not in NT or Win2K. In Win2K, you can use the /persistent:no switch instead, which automatically deletes the mapping every time you log off. Replace it with one line: net use s: \\ksn-inc\share /persistent:no. Hope this helps!
