Help! I have the message “Error Performing Inpage Operation” on a Maxtor external hard drive and can’t get at any of the data. The drive shows up under a different drive letter and name than it should and gives that message when I click on the drive. When I look at it in device manager it shows as empty. I found pointers to the Microsoft support article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/141117 but that covers the cause, not the solution. Any idea?
If it helps, it’s a Maxtor 300GB Serial ATA HD 7200/16MB/S-ATA-150 run in a USB enclosure. WinXP Pro, USB port is fine, drive spins, etc.
