    Error Pinging on the Network

    Locked

    by den_santiago ·

Our Network is using MS Windows NT 4.0. There had been instances when I try logging in with a qualified account and it was properly verified. I am able to access shared folders on the server. But when I try pinging the I.P address of the Server it keeps giving me a REQUEST TIME OUT reply…I am therefore unable to use Internet Connection on the Server since our Server is also a proxy server for shared internet connection.

What happens if you try to ping the server via it’s name as opposed to it’s IP address.
Also, can you map network shares in the command window?
Sounds stupid, but are you certain you have the right IP address.

Are you pinging the internal IP address or the external one? When you’re running proxy server, you cannot ping beyond the proxy server from a workstation. So, for example, if I have a proxy server with an internal IP address of 192.168.1.1 and an external (public) address of 202.2.3.4, I will be able to ping 192.168.1.1 but not 202.2.3.4. Conversely, if I go outside and connect to the Internet, I’ll be able to ping 202.2.3.4, but not 192.168.1.1. Is this possibly what you’re seeing? This should not, however, affect your ability to use the Internet – your workstation should be pointing to the internal IP address (or name) of the proxy server. Hope this helps!

Do you also use a firewall on the proxy?
If so maybe check the icmp traffic on the firewall, maybe its blocked..

      Pinging from INSIDE TO OUTSIDE
if u want to be able too ping from the inside too the outside you need too use NAT Translation (Network Address Translation)
meaning comming from the Inbound card 10.1.16.1 translate too 62.230.245.85 plus additionally addresses if neccesary. Go to the Cisco site too learn more about NAT.
