Establishing A Netmeeting connection

By Ibrahim Yahya ·
I've already installed ILS Server in a Windows NT Server 4.0. But however the communication can only be established in Local Area Network. I can see all the user name in the directory but could not communicate with them if they are outside the rangeof our Local Area Network. My Server was behind a router and a firewall.

1.) What is the necessary configuration should I make in my server?

2.) What the user need to configure?

Looks like the ports are blocked on the firewall. Please look up the following KB articles on microsofts web site on what ports has to be open on the firewall to be able to communicate outside the firewall.

I've already configured my firewall but still users that are outside the range of LAN could not communicate with the user that was in the LAN even though they can see each other user name in the ILS Server.

I would try first putting this server outside your firewall and see if other users can connect to it... this would check to make sure the server is ok. If it works then it looks like your firewall might not be setup correctly for the ports needed. As of right now do you have this server in a DMZ that has an external ip address?

The external network user are able to connect to the server and also can view all the user which are connected to the server locally but they cannot communicate with each other. I don't think it was the issue of the firewall.

P.S. I've also had tried to disable the firewall totally and connect the server to the router directly. But it doesn't help.

Are the IP address on the LAN going thru a NAT?
If so I dont think there is any way you can have outside callers connect to the local IP address on your LAN.

Yes they are going thru NAT. Do you think it will not work.

Not sure if this is the way you want to go, but why not try having your meeting on the internet. At home I use net meeting, You need a hotmail address and a download of MSN Messenger Service. You also need the hotmail addresses of everyone taking part in your meeting.
Hope this helps
