Estimating wordpress eCommerce development time

By FemaleCSgrad ·
Hi all,

I recently got made redundant whilst on Maternity Leave and am struggling to find another job which is incredibly frustrating and a bit stressful!

My background is in Project Management at a Web Development company, and I recently did an MSc in Computer Science.

I've been given the opportunity to build a wordpress site. I have no experience of wordpress, but did a lot of java programming, built an Android app, and learnt HTML, CSS, and JavaScript on my course so I feel like it's a totally feasible and an opportunity I should jump at.

The problem I have is estimating time. I'm really struggling to figure out how long it will take me. I don't think I can estimate until I've built one, however I need to agree a delivery date, and will be doing it whilst being a mum to a 1 year old, so working all night to finish isn't an option.

I've put a very loose list of requirements below:

Basic eCommerce using the WooCommerce plugin and an existing Wordpress template that supports WooCommerce
Responsive
Contact Us Form
Mailing list sign up Form (Linked to MailChimp)
Blog

I understand that isn't very comprehensive, but could anyone possibly give me some guidance?

A crazy idea

Hi, FemaleCSgrad,

I'm not sure if anyone can give you a proper estimation of how long it would take you to these tasks.

Since you are a mum, here's a crazy idea -- why don't you find a premium theme that is already responsive, SEO-friendly and has all the other features you named? Once you get it, I don't think you will have the problem to change it the way you like it (since you know HTML, CSS and JS).
