Ethernet Advantages

By nroberts ·
We are currently considering switching from token ring to ethernet. I was wondering if someone could help us with some ideas, besides the obvious, faster, more widely supported, etc. that could help convince us that this would be worth doing. Would love to hear from those who have converted from token ring to ethernet. If you could point me to white papers or any other documentation that show the advantages in black and white, that would be great. Thanks. Feel free to email me with any other comments.

Here's a good start:

Ethernet's biggest advantages over Token Ring are 1) the whole network does not go down when one NIC is bad or a cable is broken and 2) it is MUCH MUCH more widely supported and, therefore, easier to support.

Here's one more that's not bad:

Lots of IBM white papers go in depth about ethernet and it's advantages but I could not find any that specifically compared it over the token ring solution. If you need more let me know.
