    Ethernet Hubs Overloading

    Locked

    by itnetman ·

Have installed new computers on network. When computers are switched off, if we have power interuption to hubs they will lock out due to excess traffic from new PC’s. Only cured by either switching computer on or disconnecting from hub. Suspect Wakeup on Lan signal but disabling in BIOS will not cure. Tried diff net cards still same so suspect motherboards. Only copper affected not fibre. Cannot touch Hubs so must have solution for PC. 3Com Hubs, MSI 6390 SKA version 100 motherboards.

I would recommend checking to see what activity you have running on your net work like NETBIOS Name Service as this ma be causing the traffic you can get a good freeware activity sniffer at http://www.networkactiv.com/PIAFCTM.html hope this is of some use.

It is likely you have a faulty NIC in one of the machines using that hub.
Or your hub may have problems. Either way I recommend upgrading the network hardware to switches, that way you can run at 100mb full duplex on all your machines.
Other things to look at include configuration of your nics, unnecessary protocols, or bad cables.
