Event I 1265 replication link fails

By swalker ·
Went thru most of the Q&A's and didn't find anything on the 1265 Event ID.. Is it possible I'm the only onein the world that has this problem?

Have been using Win2K Server with AD and DNS.
Purchased a new box and installed MS Win 2003 server. Set it up as a secondary DC. Was planning to promote the 2003 server to master after every thing was replicated so I can say good by to the Win2K server.

Every thing went well during the install of the
secondary DC (Win2003 server) No complaints from
AD and things have been humming fine except for
the replication.....

failed with the following status:
...
The DSA operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup failure.

The record data is the status code. This operation will be retried.

AD Sites and services seems to be configured properly. A trust between the 2 controller does exist.

As far as I can tell the DNS contains all of the correct entries for the Primary Domain controller.

Secondary Domain Controller is using the
primary domain controller as its preferred DNS Server. Register this connection's addresses in DNS IS checked. There exist in a
Host(A) record in the forward lookup zones
Alias(CNAME) in _msdcs
_kerberos Service Location(SRV) in _tcp
_kpasswd Service Location(SRV) in _tcp
_ldap Service Location(SRV) in _ldap

Nothing in Reverse Lookup Zones

for the secondary DC

Really appreciate any help.
Thanks

Are any of the servers multi-homed? if not it looks like there a record missing or a record pointing to an incorrect IP. What is the network setup? How many domains in the forest?
If both DCs are running dns, point the dns server under the Network Card properties to itlself for DNS resolution.

Need more info

thanks all for getting back
I don't know if they are multi-homed or not I left them as they were when Windows installed them as.. I'll need to look and see.

The 2nd DC wasn't a dns but just configured it as a secondary created a zone for the 2nd DC and
added a (ptr) record for it.

Went into sites and services and deleted the
primary rep connection and created one from the
secondary to the primary. The error messages have
vanished on the primary but am getting

event id 1586 on the secondary but I'm not totaly sure its really a problem..

The Windows NT 4.0 or earlier replication checkpoint with the PDC emulator master was unsuccessful.

A full synchronization of the security accounts manager (SAM) database to domain controllers running Windows NT 4.0 and earlier might take place if the PDC emulator master role is transferred to the local domain controller before the next successful checkpoint.

The checkpoint process will be tried again in four hours.

Additional Data
Error value:
8452 The naming context is in the process of being removed or is not replicated from the specified server.

again thanks.
