Event Viewer

By abraham_wrld ·
Hi! All,

I have to monitor & manage a few hundred servers, and find myself spending almost the entire morning going through the event viewer for each server. Is it possible to consolidate the event logs for the day (multiple severs) and display/write them to a text/log file without using any third party software/tools.
Would appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Abraham

Hi,

I don't know about consolidating the event logs into one but have you tried using the Performance logs and alerts under the MMC?
With this you can set an alert when a service or systems fails to start/run etc... I have used PL&E before to monitor when a service failed to start and then look at the event log to see why.

Try using EventCombMT from Microsoft. It is available on some resource kits and may be available for download also. Go to the following link and abount three quarters of the way down it expains the program and what it can do.

Good luck. Let us know if you find a better free solution.
