Event viewer error

By jplank ·
we are using a Prolient 1600 server running NT 4.0 with SMS 2.0 & SQL 7.0. SMS stopped working-connection failed. I went to the event viewer and found an event detail that says: The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was 80070005 from line 46 of d:\n4\private\es\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp.
SMS 2.0 and SQL 7.0 have sp1. When I tried to install sp2 I got an error and could not update. No passwords have been changed and tried an SMS reset with no luck.
any ideas?

Ok, your server seems to be having a big issue with SMS 2.0 mixing with SQL. The first line if I were doing this would be to get the SQL & SMS Back up. Do you have a backup server that can admin SQL 7. If so, I suggest doing that, and moving the control to the backup server..yes that will take effort but right now it's not working so I would make the call to do the less hard thing first to get the SQL's up & running. Next, I would ask myself why isn't my SMS letting me update this, this is a major issue. This may have something to do with the way it was installed (before/after SQL). Is it backdating some files, are those files being used by the system..and. If you have more than one server, I suggest if you have the res. to remove SMS 2.0,then Remove the SQL (reguardless of the presence of another server.) Now, it is a an understatement to say they are fighting. So Look at why are they fighting. Look at the logs..Where DID they write those last files to. I would also check the microsoft site for any wp o
