Evidence of Web site effectiveness ????

By eujay ·
Is there any hard evidence out there that a good web site actually does increase business ?

Does anybody know of any sites that show scientific research on the effectiveness of web sites in increasing sales call to a company ?

Is there any research on good vs bad web sites and how they affected the companies that owned them ?

I work for a mid sized electronics company that has been doing most of it's work for two very large customers, Viz Sun and hp. The company is now seeking new customers.

The companies existing site has several problems.
1/ It is geared only to the existing sun/hp customers. It has no "pull" for any other potential customer.

2/ It is invisible in search engine listings. Searches for electronic repair, computer repair, unix repair and all the other things we do will never bring up our comapny name. The only way to find the company site is to search using the company name, (something that new customers will never do because they do not know our name).

Here's the url for the site.

The company has long since outgrown the site. It can now offer services over and above those offered on the existing site. Common sense tells me that a new/improved site with a better search engine placement and a better search engine description will bring in more business.

My boss is sympathetic to my view but does nothing about it. I am looking for evidence, scientific research, to back up my claims in hope that the company might become more open to my ideas.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks
