Excel 2007 highlight 2 cells/rows if condition on one cell.

By mdreskler ·
Excel 2007 highlight 2 cells/rows if condition on one cell. Want to highlight 2 cells in a 2 line report imported into excel if the cell on one line contains the word "product", want to highlight that cell and the cell on the row above it. What kind of formula can I do this with?

Formatting text files for excel import.

by mdreskler In reply to Excel 2007 highlight 2 ce ...

I remembered ways I've done this before at previous job. Used (unix) VI editor on text file to remove every other hex od and oa (carr return and line feed) character to get the 2 lines in report on one line per item and that worked, then in excel hightlighted cells where text contained my search word "product" with formatting.
Another way to do it is using program called Spalding DataImport lets you pre format text to import into excel and save the formatting rules and much more formatting can be done with it than excel, you can reuse the saved rules and setup jobs to run them and get a good excel report easily with it automatically each time.
