Dear All:
A user whom I support saved an Excel 97 file into c:\windows\desktop\briefcase (they are using Windows 95). A couple of weeks later, they tried to open the file, but recieved the error message “file format is not valid.” They tried renaming the file, and copying it and pasting it to different locations, all to no avail.
Why would this happen to a user of Excel 97? He did not report anything unusual occurring when he was saving the file originally.
