Excel 97 problem

By mis_map ·
When we try and save an excel document over the network using office 97 it creates a temporary file with some random name and locks the original. We have checked all the permissions, attributes, and disabled the anti virus on the server. Has anyone seen this or have any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks

I remember seeing this problem a long time ago. If I remember correctly, there was no fix except to save the file to the local hard drive first. Then, copy it to the network destination.

This is not good I hope there is a solution, this is happening alot on our network and that would be a pain for our users to do this. It started about 2 weeks ago.

What changed two weeks ago?

The software you're using is 9+ years old. Funny that it was working at all if all of your computers have been upgraded to XP at the very minimum. So, what changed 2 weeks ago? Did they upgrade the server?

Can the user delete the temp file?

If yes does that unlock the file?

If there is a macro running when the document opens try disabling it and see if that makes a difference.

I can't remember what caused this. Is it a shared workbook?
