Excel and Spool32 page fault

By vstrader1 ·
Recently we've had 3-4 different users end up with invalid page faults caused by spool32.dll after continuous printing from Excel 2k. To 2 different HP printers. It causes all installed printers to disappear from their machines and they have to reboot to have print capability again (the printers magically reappear). Tried deleting and reinstalling printers; supposed with more recent drivers, but to no avail. Any ideas?

MS has an article called "How to Troubleshoot Spool32 Error Messages". Type the following in the address box of I.E.:

I didn't understand from your comment about more recent drivers if you tried to download newer drivers from HP's website.

If they are HP Deskjet printers you might be able to find a hp*.cfg or hp*.ini file on your computer. One of those will open up an GUI HP window and you can turn off certain options that could be causing your errors.

Also, in the printer properties, under Details\Spool Settings, try playing around with Print directly to the printer - RAW.

I'm not sure if the Wordbackground settings effect Excel, but it's worth a try to help resolve your problem. I don't see the option available in Excel.

Open Word\Tools\Options\Print and uncheck\check background printing.

Just play around with some of these ideas.
Good luck.

SYMPTOMS
========

When you try to print to a LANtastic network printer, you may receive the
following error message:

Spool32 caused an invalid page fault in module WNPP32.DLL

CAUSE
=====

This error can occur for either of the following reasons:

- The real-mode LANtastic drivers used the wrong syntax to capture a printer
port.

- You may require an updated Lantnet.drv file from Artisoft.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve the problem, use the appropriatemethod:

- Edit the Startnet.bat file in the Lantasti folder and disable the "net use
lptx" statement. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Use any text editor (such as Notepad) to open the Startnet.bat file in the
Lantasti folder.

2. Type "rem" (without the quotation marks) at the beginning of the "net use
LPT1" (without the quotation marks) statement.

3. Save the Startnet.bat file and then close the editor.

4. Restart your computer.

- To obtain the updated Lantnet.drv file, download the Lant6x.exe file from
Artisoft's BBS.
