Excel Copy Question

By JamieK ·
I am trying to copy a range of cells from one Excel Workbook to a new workbook. I can do this, but when I do it doesn't copy all the formatting (it doesn't make an exact copy) and I have to reformat the copy. There has to be an easier way . . .

Use 'Paste Special' in the edit menu and make sure the ALL radio button is selected. This will paste the information formatting and all.

Use the "insert rows" function in the new workbook which will insert rows with the same formatting. Then do your pasting.

After copying, go to the new workbook and Paste. Normally, this should work. However, you may also choose 'Paste Special'. Make sure the radio button 'All' is selected, and then click on 'OK'.

Paste special is probably the best solution if the cells are random. If you want to copy entire rows, here's another variation:
1. Select the entire row (by clicking and dragging on the row numbers at the left)
2. Right click and choose COPY
3. Go to the new workbook or worksheet and position your insertion point at the row below where you want the new rows to be inserted
4. Right click and choose INSERT COPIED CELLS and it works much like Paste Special - pastes with all formatting intact
